Description
English: Topsail schooner, SHENANDOAH, sailing in the waters of Nantucket Sound off Vineyard Haven on the island of Martha's Vineyard, USA, on July 20, 2005.

For propulsion, this ship has sails only, no motors. Designed for speed in the Baltimore Clipper sailing tradition, the Shenandoah has two raked masts, gaff-rigged with

  • three triangular sails at the front – flying jib, jib, forestaysail (trinquette);
  • a foresail on the front mast with two square sails at the top;
  • a main rmast set towards the back with a gaff-topsail and mainsail.
