This article looks very good. What would make it Usable, if it is not already, and what would make it a Guide? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:49, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Because of the large number of hiking destinations it is difficult to list specific and detailed information about for instance "how to get there" or "where to sleep" for each of the destinations listed. The article is more kind of an overview, a starting point, so I am not sure if the criteria for Usable articles or Guide can be applied??
I have still more material that I will add to make it more complete. Do you think a list items with links (coordinates) to a full map of Norway is a good idea? --Erik den yngre (talk) 14:56, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I love the idea of coordinates linked to a map of Norway, but lists without descriptions of some kind are generally frowned upon on this site. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:58, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

My idea was to make a listing of hiking destination with short, concise description of each, also those with a separate article. Example of listing with link to map. --Erik den yngre (talk) 15:13, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

  • 1 Hardangervidda plateau. One of the most popular hiking areas, easily accessible by train (Bergen line) or road. Mostly gentle tundra at 1000 meters or more above sea level, some pronounced summits and a notable glacier in the north-west corner. Trails and lodges maintained and operated by the Trekking association.

This looks good to me. The only danger I could imagine is that too many locations might saturate the map, but I'm sure you'll handle that. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:21, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
That is true. Perhaps do not include the smaller areas from the map and only include large/important areas? I can also try to cluster small neighboring areas. --Erik den yngre (talk) 15:30, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
You could also include some regional maps if necessary. See how long the article gets and, as we say in the US (and especially musicians like me), play it by ear. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:36, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
The list of destinations is now sorted by type of terrain rather than by region, so I am not sure if regional maps will work. --Erik den yngre (talk) 15:43, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Added map, customary to split Norway in North and South. --Erik den yngre (talk) 15:58, 20 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I changed status to usable. I certainly think the article is usable. The original question "what would make it a Guide?" remains. --LPfi (talk) 20:52, 19 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Fees[edit]

The article seems good, as sound your thoughts. One minor point about the example listing: as hiking generally is free, individual destinations or areas should not be told to be free. It is unnecessary duplication, and possibly even confusing: there are still fees at least for lodging (for those using the cabins; are there any free huts in Norway?), which could be mentioned instead – if there are significant differences from one destination to another.

I noticed prices (for dormitory or obetjant/selvbetjant hytte) in the Oslo region seemed much higher than what was said to be typical on the general DNT webbsite (300–400 instead of 100–200 kr). Are there such systematic differences? (I think the price range should be in Hiking in the Nordic countries, but regional differences could be treated here.)

--LPfi (talk) 08:01, 21 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I don't know about the prices, so I should check. The "free" keyword is generated automatically when "do" template is used (don't know how to override this), perhaps we should use the general listing template instead. --Erik den yngre (talk) 09:32, 21 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
Sounds like a severe bug (and I have not noticed it – is there some special circumstances that trigger the behaviour? a quick check did not trigger it). It is common for Do things to have too many options to easily give relevant price information. --LPfi (talk) 10:32, 21 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
SOrry, my mistake. Better leave it blank, than OK. --Erik den yngre (talk) 13:40, 21 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
