removing external links (@Wrh2)[edit]

You have also removed a link to official regional tourist info page - maintained by official regional authorities. I placed it back

Two concerns: the link that was restored appears to be an official link to the parent region (Silesia), and not to Katowice. Secondly, there should be one link to the most appropriate offcial site, placed after the first mention of Katowice; the second link is currently under "Get out", which is incorrect. I've reverted this change, but if the second link is "more" official, feel free to read Project:External links and make appropriate changes. -- (WT-en) Ryan 11:49, 26 February 2006 (EST)
Well I guess at most cases such rule (about one link) is proper though thats a problem about Katowice in my opinion. Katowice is not only a capital of Silesian voivodship (district) but is also a heart of biggest agglomeration in Poland. The cities and towns over here are located just about each other but formally they are separate so in fact it is hard to concern them separately. Tighter integration is currently in (very slow) progress as Upper-Silesian Metropolitan Union (polish) (see there a map) but no one knows when would it be finished. I know that there should be separate Wikivoyage page devoted to agglometarion but as it is huge location having millions of habitants and it is hard to describe it reasonably quickly but on the other hand is worth at last to mention it and to point where we can find some additional info until there would be proper Wikivoyage page. - I dont change anything - if i convicted You - do it - if not - don't. --- regards (WT-en) Przemek

Good image[edit]

A photo from this region [1] is a finalist in a photo of the year contest on Commons. Perhaps it should be added somewhere on WV, but I do not know where. Pashley (talk) 15:26, 9 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed editing priority: Poland (specifically Katowice) for Wikimania[edit]

Swept in from the pub

Wikimania 2024 will be in Katowice and Diff just published this post: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2024/02/22/visa-and-travel-requirements-getting-to-poland-for-wikimania-2024/ which made me think that if anyone here is just looking for stuff to do, it may be wise to prioritize this region for travel, as our fellow Wikimedians will be descending there in August. —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:38, 22 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think this is a good idea. @Tar Lócesilion, are there any plans by the Wikimania committee to support this (e.g., by suggesting that editors who live in that area have a look)? The volunteers for the Wikimania in Esino Lario did an amazing job with the article for their destination, and I'd like it to become a tradition. @WhatamIdoing Sadly... not hearing stuff here :( @Nadzik @Wojciech Pędzich Piotrus (talk) 08:34, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey @WhatamIdoing, @Koavf and @Piotrus. Writing to you from the Katowice site visit that we just concluded. We have discussed this with the local community, hopefully the pages will be revitalized before Wikimania! :D Nadzik (talk) 09:39, 3 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@WhatamIdoing Nadzik is Polish WMF's chapter boss (and this year Wikimania boss). So yay :) @Nadzik: feel free to ping me if anyone needs help, AFAIK I am the most active Polish speaker on English Wikovoyage (feel free to correct me if there is someone else...). Piotrus (talk) 00:09, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Piotrus, but the honour of leading WMPL belongs to @Gdarin and @Aegis Maelstrom, with whom we are closely cooperating this year. The organizers of Wikimania 2024 are looking at the challenge, stay tuned! Nadzik (talk) 15:03, 4 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
This work is coming along smartly. All pages for the Katowice metropolis are now up-to-date and high-grade usable or better. The other cities of Silesia will be brought to that standard in the coming weeks.
It will be helpful to have feedback from the conference delegates on what they find helpful or otherwise about these pages. Lack of real-world end-user feedback feels like a weakness in WV and perhaps is an issue the conference will explore. Grahamsands (talk) 19:50, 12 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
