Beyond Captain obvious? Hobbitschuster (talk) 18:12, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Actually, this would be the one article for some rather captain obvious stuff. Even if most of our active contributors have quite a couple of countries and places in their "collection", we must remember that our readers may not. :) ϒpsilon (talk) 18:33, 18 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Add a discussion of rail travel vs. flying

[edit]

I often find that Europeans and Americans are mutually surprised and flabbergasted by the state of the other region's rail system. Most Americans come with a default "fly everywhere" attitude and are then either surprised that there really isn't a daily flight from Dresden to Karlsruhe (and once a change of plane is involved, the flight is neither all that fast nor all that cheap) whereas many Europeans will be looking for trains that don't exist or take ages.

Similarly, as they say "An American thinks 100 years is a long time, whereas a European thinks 100 km is a long distance". Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:14, 4 April 2017 (UTC) Hobbitschuster (talk) 11:14, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, and maybe include other possibilities as well. Ferries are the best way for some journeys in the Philippines and likely other countries too. In parts of Western Canada & the US (&Australia?) renting a car is the usual option. And so on. Pashley (talk) 20:46, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
True. In general a mode choice discussion with a special eye to the blind spots people from a region where a certain mode is prevalent may have going to a region where it is not. Hobbitschuster (talk) 20:51, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Transportation could have a deeper comparison of vehicles. /Yvwv (talk) 14:06, 23 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Worth a link?

[edit]

Retiring_abroad/Table includes (partial) info on the legality of cannabis, homosexuality & prostitution, since those would interest some retirees. Should there be a link in this article? Pashley (talk) 20:50, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Other info in that table, such as per capita GDP as a cost indicator & GPI for safety, might also be of general interest. Pashley (talk) 20:53, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Or the relationship between PPP and exchange rate Dollars... Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:01, 4 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
