Thanks for doing the Forbidden City article

[edit]

Back last spring, when I was expanding the Dongcheng article following my visit there, I suggested having a separate Forbidden City article, on the grounds that other large World Heritage sites like Petra and Machu Picchu had their own pages. The consensus was in favor, but I was busy and never got around to it. So I'm glad you did, quite independently of that discussion (See ... great minds run in the same channel!).

I may make some edits to it and try to make the writing a little more consistent. But you've done all the hard work.

BTW, I intend to eventually put together a new banner for Dongcheng so we don't have to use that other one that I took and created on two articles. Daniel Case (talk) 06:35, 13 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

You're certainly welcome! I see your point about perhaps finding a way to fold the nearby attractions into the article. But right now I think that limiting the article to just the Forbidden City makes sense—it's a World Heritage Site, tagged as such, and we generally try to keep large World Heritage Sites apart from their surroundings. Perhaps we could someday have a separate "Central Beijing" article on all the places around the Forbidden City that straddle the district line, such as in addition to all the places you mentioned, Tiananmen Square and its attractions? Considering that among China's Tentative List for possible future designation as a World Heritage Site is "The Central Axis of Beijing (including Beihai)" If that designation ever comes through a separate "Central Beijing" article would be a good idea.

And further along those lines (ahem), I bet we could have separate pages for the Temple of Heaven and Summer Palace, as well. Neither of them are just one-building complexes, in fact they're quite extensive (ToH is the biggest park in Beijing) and they're both World Heritage Sites as well. (And let's face it ... without them, almost no tourists would go to either Haidian or Chongwen respectively. Daniel Case (talk) 06:27, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Good to see more people editing China articles. Keep up the good work.

I wonder if you might have anything to say at Talk:East China. Pashley (talk) 01:59, 20 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
