avoid raki with fish;

although, this is quite common among the turkish; raki is a type of brandy with strong spicy taste; which is neutralizing the nice, mild taste of soft, gentle meat of fish.

raki is to be taken with meze only(white bulgarian cheese, garbanzoes, watermelons etc)

Mmmm, rakı with Turkish melon. This is a good tip, which maybe should go in the Turkey#Drink section. Please feel free to plunge forward and add it yourself! --(WT-en) Peter Talk 18:13, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

Removal of HAVAS Airport Busses[edit]

HAVAS had to stop it's services temporarily (most likely, permanently) as Ankara Metropolitan Municipality has taken over the routes. Shall we remove it completely until their legal issues are settled? What do you think? —The preceding comment was added by Hocu (talkcontribs) 15:35, 15 February 2017‎

Since taking the HAVAŞ buses is a very common way to get to the city centres from the airports anywhere in Turkey but Istanbul (and, lately, Ankara, it seems), probably it's better to leave a short note saying they are not available in Ankara, so the readers won't think that option is overlooked at WV, but rather is completely unavailable. Ok, thanks for showing a better way for it. I will mention that it might be back.Hocu (talk) 17:38, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some own work concerns. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:00, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just in case, I changed the thumbnail to File:Ankara metro haritasi.png which as far as I'm aware seems to be the best-fitting to our goals among the options at Commons (up-to-date and doesn't show the unnecessary planned/upcoming lines), but unfortunately lacking the suburban rail line.
The vote at Commons for the discussed file seems to lean towards a keep currently, but in any case the file has little legibility while in the thumbnail. Vidimian (talk) 15:41, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ankara for DOTM[edit]

Turkey reaches its centenary in Oct 2023 so Ankara the capital will be a major focus of celebrations. It's easy to access and has lots of visitor amenities and POIs, undamaged by the quake. I therefore intend to pitch it as DOTM, though the page needs work - it's "guide" going-on mid-range usable. Any thoughts here? For example a suitable DOTM banner? Grahamsands (talk) 10:57, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After a quick glance:
  • Per the number of listings, "see" looks more or less complete, although some of the listings need descriptions. I'm not sure which way is better for subdividing them: by attraction types as they are now or by geography?
  • Parks currently listed at "do" are better moved to "see" per wtsi#P.
  • Ankara has a well-established opera tradition, so that's a candidate to be mentioned at "do".
  • "Buy" needs more variety, e.g. local souvenir shops near the castle (though they are currently mentioned in passing).
  • "Eat" listings need descriptions and perhaps more variety.
  • "Drink" needs a lot more listings. The Bahçelievler/6. Cadde area, relatively recently became hip, isn't mentioned at all.
  • "Sleep": more listings and descriptions.
  • "Stay safe": Are infamous pavyons as shady as they are in hearsay? If so, why not mention them?
  • "Go next" needs a make-over, and more options. Beynam Forest (tr.wp) and Çubuk Dam (en.wp) (recently renovated) might be mentioned somewhere.
I don't think there is a need to rush for a DOTM banner. The banner nominations can be submitted after a successful DOTM nomination for the article.

I upstaged to GUIDE since this is a prerequisite, and it's already better developed than many pages claiming that status. I proposed it as DOTM with a pic of Anit Kabir since this fits the centenary. Grahamsands (talk) 14:46, 22 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Right, think I'm all done here, enjoy. Grahamsands (talk) 20:18, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
