That's a nifty new banner up there, and while it does highlight Goerlitz's most prominent feature, namely the bridge and its partition from Zgorzelec by the river Neisse/Nysa, the banner actually mostly pictures Zgorzelec. We do not have an article on Zgorzelec, and we may even want to go out on a limb and have one article on both, but just mind you that this banner would be more suitable for the Polish half of the city. Extension - Off the Beaten Path nomination?[edit]
Hi! Anyone up to extend this article? Görlitz undoubtedly is one of Europe's loveliest yet almost undiscovered old town treasuries. If improved in class, it should easily be great candidate for an Off the Beaten Path nomination. Travemünde was featured in June '14, we could reach a similar complexity here rather easily. Bold proposal: One article for Görlitz and Zgorzelec[edit]
I don't know whether there is any precedent for it, but as for the traveller there is little difference between the two parts apart from the obvious ones, and the bridges across the borders can be easily crossed without so much as showing ID and due to the fact that there is no article on Zgorzelec, and the article on Görlitz is rather small, maybe we could write one about both or merge them? I have only been to the city (visiting both parts, thus proving my point somewhat) once, so I gladly defer to someone with greater expertise, but I don't see many reasons why we shouldn't at least give it a try. - I believe there is precedence for it, at least in outline article form, as I know some South American border communities between Brazil and its neighbors are set up that way. I'd also say go for it. It's probably sufficient to just redirect Zgorzelec here and then mention in the intro that it is included. Texugo (talk) 11:53, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
