Update?[edit]

"many Muslim customs such as polygamy, Islamic-inspired law, and male dominance are commonplace, although all will be reversed in accordance with French law by 2011"

It's 2017. What is the current situation? Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:31, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed?[edit]

Views please on whether it's fair to describe Mayotte as a "disputed" territory, or at least to do so prominently, as it was in the categorisation of East African Islands where this discussion began. The Mayotte#Understand section looks to me to say as much as is necessary. Crimea, Abkhazia and Kashmir are disputed territories; Mayotte is French de facto and de jure. Comoros makes a claim, which WV does not adjudicate on, but we do reflect the impact on travellers - in this case, nil. Grahamsands (talk) 20:41, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That doesn't mean Mayotte isn't disputed. Ashmore and Cartier Islands and the BIOT are in a similar boat (except both are uninhabited) and both have disclaimerboxes. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 09:30, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Which you added, by the same logic that I'm questioning. I'm not saying don't mention, just don't make it a big deal. The previous EA Islands listed countries and territories, then Mayotte was in a separate "Disputed" section, as if it was being held with tongs at arms length. That's not neutrality or equipoise, that's a stance in favour of claimants. My view is that Mayotte#Understand says enough, or could be tweaked so. We could also expand the point in EA Islands # Understand, as the aftermath of colonialism affects all that region. Would that do it for you? Grahamsands (talk) 19:52, 26 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done, other stuff added, so Mayotte and its parent page East African Islands now look usable. Grahamsands (talk) 19:11, 5 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
