North Central Nigeria[edit]

Swept in from the pub

This has been done to South West Nigeria already, however, I think it is time to create states for North Central Nigeria articles. I believe that 18 articles with about 2-4 in each state, is good enough for a start, but will progress as time goes. While it seems to me that most contributors are from the southern areas, there's also a fair number of contributors from North Central Nigeria, possibly because a lot of contributors have some relation with the Uni of Ilorin, in one way, or another.

So at this stage, it looks like we're good to start state articles for the North Central Nigerian articles. Pinging the organisers of this project, @Timmylegend, Haylad, Godstime Elijah, James Moore200:. But I would like to hear the opinion of others who have participated in the assistance of the Nigeria Expedition and the café.

This region is a mess[edit]

It seems we have a partially regionalized region, and while all the states are looking quite decent, the destinations around Abuja aren't. Doing some more research, the Abuja and Federal Capital Territory boundaries to me seem comparable to Canberra/Australian Capital Territory, which has the capital, and some smaller towns like Hall or Tharwa, just like how Federal Capital Territory mostly comprises of Abuja and some smaller towns/cities mentioned in the article. I would like an opinion on two options we can do with the Federal Capital Territory.

  1. Have no Federal Capital Territory article, and develop Abuja and the other settlements in the Federal Capital Territory along the lines of Canberra's layout on WV.
  2. Create a Federal Capital Territory article and let the Abuja only have listings are districts in the metropolitan area of Abuja, with the other articles that are not one of Abuja's districts as separate city articles.

Based on how many articles we have for destinations in the Federal Capital Territory, I think we should follow option 2. There are advantages for using both formats, but I would like to get more opinions before cleaning this up. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:29, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think you've made a good argument for option 2. Ground Zero (talk) 11:36, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I started an FCT article, though it's very outliney at this point. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 02:49, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

which cities to remove per wv:7+2?[edit]

This is not a bottom level region and we need to remove at least nine of them. Which ones should stay and which should be removed? --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:39, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, Abuja, the nation's capital should definitely stay, and most of the other state capitals should too. That leaves us with two left to choose from. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 11:41, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There are seven states, so keeping the largest city in each state would make sense to me. The state capitals are important for administration, but not necessarily for travellers. If a traveller wanted to visit one city in Aus, would recommend Canberra or Sydney? I love Ottawa, but it doesn't offer travellers what Toronto or Montreal do. Would definitely say Sydney. But on second thought, have to agree with you. Subconsciously, I keep getting the impression that jurisdictional capitals are also the largest cities (because that's just how it is in Aus), though this is definitely not true for nearly all of the US and parts of Canada. But back on topic, here's the list of the largest cities in each jurisdiction:
  • Abuja
  • Makurdi, Benue State
  • Okene, Kogi State
  • Ilorin, Kwara State
  • Lafia, Nasarawa State
  • Minna, Niger State
  • Jos, Plateau State
That leaves us with two left to choose from. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 12:35, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
