Fulton County[edit]

User:Supernerd11 created an article for Fulton County, which I have merged and redirected here. With only 14 city articles under Northern Indiana, it does not currently make sense to subdivide it into 26 county articles. If we do reach a point where subdivision is needed, counties may very likely not be the way to go anyway. Some county specific information was not really possible to merge in the main article, so I am placing it below. Texugo (talk) 20:00, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Regions[edit]

Fulton County is on the southern edge of Michiana (southwest lower Michigan and north central Indiana).

The county is split into eight townships: Rochester (central), Aubbeenaubbee (northwest), Richland (north central), Newcastle (northeast), Henry (east), Liberty (south), Wayne (southwest), and Union (west central). Due to the irregular shape of the eastern part of the county, there's no southeast region.

Cities[edit]

  • Rochester: The county seat lies in the center of the county and houses over half of the county's population.
  • Delong and Leiters Ford: Two towns on the shores of the Tippecanoe River in Aubbeenaubbee Township.
  • Richland Center: The center of Richland Township
  • Tiosa: A town in Richland Township named after an Indian chief.
  • Talma: A small town in Newcastle Township, Talma is the only place in the United States named that. Originally known as Bloomingsburg, the United States Post Office wanted to rename the town in 1896 because of the long name. A local contest was held, and the winner, William Roundtree Kubley, found "Talma" in a crossword puzzle.
  • Athens: A town in Henry Township.
  • Akron: A major town in Henry Township on the intersection on Indiana 19 and Indiana 14.
  • Fulton: A major town in Liberty township.
  • Fletcher Lake: A town on the southern border of Liberty Township.
  • Grass Creek: A town in Wayne Township that's famous for the 2002 comedy "Best Man in Grass Creek".
  • Kewanna: A major town in Union Township.
  • Lake Bruce and Bruce Lake Station: Two towns in Union Township. Despite the similarities of the names, Lake Bruce is the only one actually on Bruce Lake.

Get in[edit]

Driving is the most common and easiest way to travel to and from Fulton County. Major highways are:

  • US 31 (both old and new) runs north-south through the north half of the county, but loops around Rochester and exits at the southeastern corner.
  • Indiana 25 runs northeast-southwest through the county, going through Fulton, Rochester, and Talma.
  • Indiana 14 goes east-west through Disko, Akron, Athens, and Rochester.
  • Indiana 19 goes north-south through the jutting-out part of the county, running through Akron.
  • Indiana 17 runs north-south through the western part of the county. It goes through Delong, Kewanna, and Grass Creek.
  • Indiana 110 forms a large part of the northern border of the county.

There's also the Fulton County Airport on the north side of Rochester for small private aircraft.

Do[edit]

I went ahead and crossed out the stuff that's already covered and/or obviously unneeded in the Northern Indiana article. Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 01:29, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot, Supernerd11! Texugo (talk) 02:20, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Also, I really want to keep the little factoids, like the origin of Talma's name or the whole Lake Bruce/Bruce Lake issue, but I'm not sure where to put them since they're not really notable enough for their own page. Any ideas? Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 03:10, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure about everyone's opinion on this, although 'trivia' would often be placed in an infobox. Andrewssi2 (talk) 03:28, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pancakes in Indiana

Did you know that Indiana pancakes use blueberries a lot? (possibly not true)

I know that at least some of it is supported by the Fulton County Historical Society, is there some sourcing process here? (sorry, I'm pretty new at Wikivoyage) Supernerd11 :D Firemind ^_^ Pokedex 19:45, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
