Sool changed hands[edit]

According to several sources, authority in Sool has changed hands Horseed media, and The Hindu Group by an administration calling itself SSC-Khatumo. As such, are there any objections to changing the name of Khatumo to SSC-Khatumo, and restructuring the hierarchy of Sool from Somaliland to SSC-Khatumo? @Ibaman: @Danielt998: Sarkaalkiisareuguwey (talk) 17:12, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wikivoyage is a travel guide, not an encyclopedia, so we don't try to keep up with political changes that may or may not be long-lasting. The situation in the region is unstable, and there may be more changes in the near future. Wikivoyage usually waits until the situation has become more stable.
In Ukraine, for example, we have not changed article titles or hierarchy during the war that started last year to reflect the battle lines that have moved back and forth.
Somalia, Puntland and Somaliland are unstable, and there are probably few people travelling to these regions anyway.
Our practice is that we note changes in the text, but we don't change titles and hierarchy until there is more certainty that the change is permanent. Ground Zero (talk) 01:51, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
From 5th of January (Somali Dispatch) until now is roughly 9 months in the hands of SSC. Should we wait until January next year, i.e. 12 months, to gauge permanency? Or is 18 months better? @Ground Zero: Sarkaalkiisareuguwey (talk) 11:49, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think it would get useful to get other opinions on this question, so I have posted a link to this discussion at Wikivoyage:Requests for comment. Ground Zero (talk) 12:02, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't change the breadcrumbs now, but add a disclaimer about its disputed control. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:08, 30 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If by 5th Jan 2024, SSC is still in control of Sool, that would be 12 months or 1 year of SSC control. 5th of June 2024 is 18 months. FWIW, I'd suggest a rounded number like 18 months. Sarkaalkiisareuguwey (talk) 15:58, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
12 months of reasonably stable control definitely seems like enough to me. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:37, 5 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't do too radical changes before the hierarchy otherwise is sensible. Now (SSC-)Khatumo, which this apparently should be breadcrumbed to, is breadcrumbed to Somalia, while it isn't listed as one of the country's regions. Neither does Khatumo have any regions, so Sool would be the first one (what's the status of Sanaag and Cayn? the latter is breadcrumbed to Khatumo, but not linked from there). It seems Khatumo and Puntland are independent entities (at least formally) accepting Somali authority; what is Somalia's view? LPfi (talk) 11:56, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What's most important to travelers is which authorities they need permission from to enter the area. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:47, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. However, the articles say nothing about whether you can cross the border from Somaliland or Puntland to Khatumo, or whether Khatumo officials will ask for Somali visas. The Wikipedia articles seem to suggest that Mogadishu has very little control over these regions. –LPfi (talk) 14:32, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@LPfi: Somalia's federal government yesterday formally recognized SSC-Khatumo as one of its federal member states. Therefore the hierarchy is sensible now Somalia > SSC-Khatumo > Sool / Sanaag / Cayn. Sarkaalkiisareuguwey (talk) 14:04, 20 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Since there was no response for a month and 10 days, I have implemented the changes on relevant pages. If anyone has further input, I will be watching this page over the near future. Sarkaalkiisareuguwey (talk) 02:08, 30 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
